$9.4 million investment boosts green housing for seniors
The Government of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) have announced a $9.4 million investment to support sustainable housing for seniors in northwestern Ontario.
The funding will aid the Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) in building nearly 100 affordable, energy-efficient housing units in Kenora and Dryden.
In Kenora, a 56-unit net-zero complex will be constructed, while Dryden will see a 40-unit building, both designed to significantly reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative aligns with Canada’s goal of reaching a net-zero economy by 2050.
This project, supported by FCM’s Green Municipal Fund, demonstrates the potential for innovative housing solutions to address climate change, affordability, and community resilience. The effort highlights the collaboration between federal, municipal, and local partners in improving housing and environmental sustainability.
