APA Safety and Health Awards Prove Lower Incident Rates

The APA – The Engineered Wood Association has announced the winners of its ‘2019 Safety and Health Awards,’ a program acknowledging safety, operational excellence, and tactics used to reduce injury and illness rates by managers and employees of companies and mills. Canadian winners include Norbord Inc. with a ‘Safest Company Award’ and Resolute-LP Engineered Wood, which was awarded the ‘Equipment-Based Innovation in Safety Award.’ The program chose its winners by using the 2020 average Weighted Incident Rate (WIR), calculated using both the number and the severity of recordable incidents. The 2020 average WIR in the industry was 7.14, an improvement from last year’s WIR of 8.11.
