Companies Struggle To Find Digitally Skilled Employees

Nearly 70 per cent of Canadian businesses are struggling to find skilled talent and 80 per cent say they need more workers with digital skills, says a study by KPMG LLP. Additionally, 79 per cent say the pandemic changed the way they work and 89 per cent are investing in developing their workforce's skills and capabilities. Sixty-nine per cent plan to hire more staff over the next three years for positions such as cyber and information security (24 per cent) and analytics and analysis (20 per cent). However, more than half of businesses are not confident they will find people with the skills they need and will consider recruiting outside Canada. With 82 per cent of business owners saying they’ve become a much more digitally integrated company, 85 per cent are increasing capital investment in buying new technology, 77 per cent say the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated their plans to digitize their operations, and 76 per cent say they view technological disruption as more of an opportunity than a threat.
