Retail Sales Grow


Retail sales reached $48.1 billion in January, an increase of 11.1 per cent compared to the same month a year earlier, says Statistics Canada. The largest came from sales of automotive and household fuels, which rose 40.7 per cent, year-over-year. Sales for hardware, tools, and renovation and lawn and garden products increased 9.8 per cent to $3.4 billion and sales of home furniture, furnishings, housewares, appliances, and electronics increased 15.4 per cent to $4.3 billion.
