Building Construction Investment Up In April

Investment in building construction increased by 2.7 per cent to $20.9 billion in April from the previous month. Residential construction investment rose by 3.2 per cent to $15.7 billion, with British Columbia reaching a record high increase (8.3 per cent). Investment in single family homes increased 4.5 per cent to $8.8 billion, with gains in seven provinces. Investment in the non-residential sector increased by 1.4 per cent. Investment in industrial construction was up 1.7 per cent to $931 million with Ontario accounting for a majority of the net growth. Investment in commercial construction was up 1.5 per cent and investment in institutional construction was up one per cent.
