Rent Increases Hurt Small Businesses

About 55 per cent of Canadian small businesses say their rent has increased over the past six months, says Alignable’s June rent report. Forty-three per cent of respondents say they could not pay their June rent in full and on time, an increase from 39 per cent reported in May. On top of that, 63 per cent of transportation small- and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) couldn’t afford June rent, up 41 per cent from May. British Columbia is the province with the highest rent delinquency among small businesses at 45 per cent, with Ontario second at 40 per cent.
