Alberta Government and Telus Spark partner to promote skilled trades
Alberta’s government and Calgary’s Telus Spark Science Centre have teamed up to promote careers in skilled trades among youth. With nearly $900,000 in provincial funding, the science centre has launched Phase 1 of the BLUprint (“Building, Learning and You”) spaces, which aim to engage young people in trades like carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work through hands-on activities.
This initiative, which began in July, combines fun with education to spark interest in trades-based science concepts.
“Investing in the next generation of skilled tradespeople is crucial for Alberta’s future,” noted Rajan Sawhney, Alberta’s Advanced Education Minister.
Phase 2, set to launch in December, will feature indoor exhibits with virtual reality job simulators and additional activities.
