American homes at risk: The financial toll of extreme weather
A recent report from Leaf Home and Morning Consult has highlighted the vulnerability of American homes to extreme weather, revealing significant financial challenges for homeowners. The report has indicated that while 66% of homes have experienced weather-related damage, only one-third of homeowners have invested in protective improvements.
The findings also revealed that 60% of homeowners faced significant out-of-pocket costs, with some paying $5,000 or more for repairs. Additionally, 62% of homeowners expressed concerns about rising insurance costs, with nearly a third already seeing increases.
Despite the risks, many prioritize cosmetic upgrades such as interior painting and flooring over weather-proofing. However, the report also noted that 73% of homebuyers are willing to pay more for homes with weather-resistant improvements, suggesting a potential increase in property value for sellers investing in these upgrades.
