Attainable Housing Initiative launches in Vancouver’s Heather Lands
The Attainable Housing Initiative (AHI) at Vancouver’s Heather Lands aims to provide affordable homeownership to up to 2,600 middle-income households. The program offers strata leasehold homes, with eligibility requirements including a maximum annual household income of $131,950 for studios and one-bedroom units, and $191,910 for two-bedroom or larger homes.
Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and meet strict asset and residency requirements. Buyers only finance 60% of the home’s market value, with the Province covering the remaining 40% through a low-interest second mortgage. Repayment occurs when the home is sold, or after 25 years.
Homes must be used as primary residences, and any secondary sales are subject to restrictions, limiting market speculation. This initiative aims to foster long-term housing stability in Vancouver.
