BC Hydro announces $500 million investment in North Shore and Sea to Sky corridor
BC Hydro will invest approximately $500 million in infrastructure projects across the North Shore and Sea to Sky corridor over the next decade, aiming to upgrade and expand the electricity grid. The projects will address increasing demand from residential, commercial, and industrial growth, and will support clean energy initiatives.
Josie Osborne, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, highlighted that these upgrades will create thousands of jobs and ensure reliable, affordable electricity. Notable projects include the Capilano substation upgrade and improvements to the Cheakamus generating facility. This investment is part of BC Hydro’s broader $36 billion 10-Year Capital Plan, which reflects rising electricity needs due to population growth and electrification trends.
