British Columbia sets ambitious housing targets
British Columbia announced plans to build over 17,000 homes in areas with the greatest housing needs, with targets set for 10 priority communities. These homes are part of the third set of priority communities under the Housing Supply Act. Colwood, Langley, Mission, and other municipalities will see significant construction efforts.
Minister of Housing Ravi Kahlon emphasized collaboration, saying, “Our government is working closely with municipalities to ensure more homes are built.” Municipalities will be evaluated every six months on their progress.
Mayor Simon Yu of Prince George and Mayor Nathan Pachal of Langley welcomed the targets, highlighting their alignment with local housing efforts. This initiative is part of the province’s $19-billion Homes for People action plan.
