Canada, Quebec launch fast-track initiative for 1,001 affordable housing units

The governments of Canada and Quebec have announced a fast-track initiative to accelerate the construction of affordable housing in Quebec, with 1,001 units set to be built rapidly. The Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ) will streamline the qualification process for developers, granting “Qualified Developer” status to expedite construction.

The first developer to receive this status is the Société de développement Angus (SDA), which will receive $193.5 million to construct units in Montréal and Rimouski. The initiative, supported by federal and provincial funding, aims to address the housing crisis by promoting affordable and sustainable living solutions.
