Canada invests $36 million to build 788 affordable homes in Saskatchewan

The federal government has allocated over $36 million through the Affordable Housing Fund (AHF) to support the construction and repair of 788 affordable homes in Saskatchewan. The announcement was made by the Honourable Dan Vandal, representing Minister Sean Fraser, at a Saskatoon project.

This project will receive $23.6 million to build 73 new homes specifically for Métis and First Nations Peoples. These homes will provide essential on-site services and easy access to urban amenities. Additionally, new agreements under the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) will expedite the construction of over 140 housing units across four Saskatchewan communities, aiming for 560 homes in the next decade.

The HAF, with additional federal funding from its 2024 budget, seeks to cut bureaucratic delays and fast-track the creation of affordable housing nationwide, fostering increased housing density and innovative local government initiatives.
