Canada lists federal lands for housing development

The Government of Canada has unveiled the Canada Public Land Bank, a new tool designed to expedite housing development on federal lands. Announced last week, under the Public Lands for Homes Plan, this initiative includes 56 federal properties suitable for housing.

One of the first sites, located at 3830 Quesnay Wood Drive SW in Calgary’s Currie neighborhood, is available for the construction of a six-storey condominium offering 99 units, with at least 30% designated as affordable housing.

Another site in Edmonton at the Village at Griesbach will provide 45 new townhomes, with half set aside for affordable housing.

This move aims to address Canada’s housing crisis by utilizing public land for long-term, affordable housing solutions.
