Canada to launch Greener Homes Affordability Program in 2025
The Government of Canada has begun discussions with provincial and territorial governments to develop the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program (CGHAP), set to launch in early 2025.
The program aims to enhance access to home retrofits, such as insulation and heat pumps, for low- to median-income households. Each jurisdiction will oversee planning and coordinating retrofits, and will work with regional partners to integrate existing programs.
This collaboration aims to deliver retrofits at no cost to homeowners and tenants, providing regionally tailored support that reduces energy costs and improves environmental performance.
Homeowners who have installed a heat pump through the Canada Greener Homes Grant on or after January 1, 2023, may qualify for up to $5,000 in additional funding under the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) program. Eligible homeowners will be notified via email by the Canada Greener Homes Initiative.
