Canadian Paint Companies Committed To ESG Goals

Canada Paint and Coatings Association (CPCA) member companies are among the largest multinationals in the world and responsible for up to 85 per cent of the products sold in Canada. These companies are committed to environment, sustainability, and governance (ESG) goals and working toward net zero by 2030 in many key areas. Members are at 38 per cent of sales from sustainably advantaged products and processes, including the launch of antibacterial and antiviral products, against the goal of 40 per cent by 2025. They have achieved 37.5 per cent reduction in waste disposal intensity from the 2017 baseline – above the 25 per cent goal by 2025. They have also achieved a 24 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2017. Many CPCA members’ reporting disclosures align with the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) standards for the chemical industry as well as the Global Reporting Initiative Standards (GRI) and some have received a rating from EcoVadis, a recognized sustainability ratings company. These achievements are highlighted in the ‘Sustainability in the Global Paint & Coatings Industry’ report released by the World Coatings Council. The report emphasizes the critical role of the global coatings industry in contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
