Canadian students win Formica challenge
Canadian students took top spots in Formica Canada’s ‘2023 FORM Student Innovation Competition.’ Tom Elliot Monette, of CEGEP in Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, QC, won first place with his work ‘Voluta,’ while Meaghan Maass, of Fanshawe College in Toronto, ON, won third place with her ‘Mooi Modular Storage Units.’ This was the competition’s sixth year, and the first year where it invited students from Mexico along with students from Canada and the US. The students are challenged to create furniture pieces using Formica brand products. During this edition, a panel of industry experts assessed 150 projects from 31 colleges and universities. Participants showed their creative prowess in defining maximalism which manifested as furniture with multiple patterns, distinctive architectural forms, or vivid, eye-catching colours.
