CarbiCrete partners with Canal Block to launch cement-free concrete

CarbiCrete, a Montreal-based carbon removal technology company, has signed a licensing agreement with Canal Block, a masonry producer in Port Colborne, Ontario.

Starting in 2025, Canal Block will produce cement-free, carbon-negative masonry units using CarbiCrete’s patented technology, which removes CO2 from the atmosphere during production. This development follows a $3 million contribution from NGen, Canada’s Global Innovation Cluster for Advanced Manufacturing, announced in early 2024 to support the integration of CarbiCrete’s curing system into Canal Block’s operations.

CarbiCrete’s CEO, Jacob Homiller, expressed excitement about expanding their sustainable technology into Ontario, while Canal Block’s president, Durk Bylsma, expressed enthusiasm over offering eco-friendly building materials.

The partnership is part of CarbiCrete’s broader goal to decarbonize construction and generate carbon credits through its emissions-reduction technology.
