CHPTA Pushes For Industry Code Of Conduct
The Canadian Home Products Trade Association (CHPTA) plans to leverage its business ‘code of conduct’ between grocery retailers and suppliers to introduce a similar code for hardware, housewares, and home improvement product products. The grocery code of conduct, drafted last November, is expected to be implemented by the end of 2023. This comes after more than a year of negotiations between industry groups representing farmers, food processor/suppliers, independent grocers, and national retail chains and with the help of a government-appointed mediator. Players in the grocery industry will be encouraged to voluntarily sign on to follow the code. CHPTA will reach out to retailers in the home improvement space to participate in the development of a similar code. It will organize an advisory committee made up from member companies to help guide it through the process. For more information, visit CHPTA.
