Conifex adjusts operations at Mackenzie sawmill
Conifex Timber Inc. has announced a reduction in operations at its Mackenzie, British Columbia sawmill due to imminent transportation challenges and unfavorable market conditions. Beginning August 26, the sawmill will operate on a one-shift basis, and its power plant will be temporarily curtailed until September 30. The decision follows labor disputes involving Canadian railways, impacting Conifex’s ability to ship products.
The company also faces reduced lumber demand, low prices, and export duties. Conifex is closely monitoring the situation and working to mitigate employee impacts while aligning with provincial forest management policies. Conifex remains confident in maintaining future operations once conditions improve.
