Construction begins on Ottawa’s new sustainable community
Construction has commenced on Odenak, a transformative development at LeBreton Flats in Ottawa. A joint initiative by Dream Unlimited Corp., Dream Impact Trust, and Multifaith Housing Initiative, Odenak will feature 608 residential units, 41% of which are designated as affordable housing. The project, supported by $310 million in government funding, targets completion by winter 2027.
Named after the Algonquin Anishinàbe word for “community,” Odenak will incorporate Indigenous-inspired design and sustainable features, including Zero Carbon certification and LEED Gold standards. It will serve diverse groups, including Indigenous peoples, veterans, and newcomers.
Amenities will include daycare facilities, co-working spaces, and wellness programs. The Dream Community Foundation will invest $150,000 annually for 20 years in community initiatives.
“Multifaith Housing Initiative is excited to be a part of this transformative new private and not-for-profit partnership model,” said Suzanne Le, MHI’s executive director.
