Construction of 57 affordable housing units begins in Québec

Québec City will soon welcome 57 new social and affordable housing units under the Programme d’habitation abordable Québec (PHAQ). The Coopérative d’habitation du Haut-de-la-Rue project, supported by provincial and federal governments, aims to provide housing for individuals, seniors, and families.

With a total cost of $24.2 million, the project includes $10.8 million from Quebec’s government, $4.1 million from Canada’s Rapid Housing Initiative, and $3.9 million from the City of Québec. A mortgage loan completes the funding.

Some residents will benefit from the Société d’habitation du Québec’s Rent Supplement Program, capping rent at 25% of their income. The initiative highlights PHAQ’s goal to accelerate affordable housing development.

“This project embodies our vision of a city where every citizen, regardless of income, can find a decent, affordable home,” said Mayor Bruno Marchand.
