Dealers give back to community for 50th anniversary

Dealer-owners and sisters Brigitte Michel and Valerie Michel of A&J Home Hardware in Sudbury, ON, celebrated their 50th anniversary by giving back to their community with two creative initiatives – a ‘Home Hardware Bucket Sale’ and a food drive with a twist. During the retailer’s first-ever Bucket Sale, customers received 20% off any items they could fit into their Home Hardware bucket, which led to some hilarious Tetris maneuvers, say the owners. For the food drive, customers donated non-perishable food in exchange for a discount on store merchandise. The more they donated, the bigger the discount—up to 20%. In one day, the store collected over 160 food items for Inner City Home, a local organization that provides emergency food resources to approximately 1,200 families a month.
