Evercloak receives $1.1 million for energy-saving HVAC project

Evercloak’s HVAC technology has received $1.1 million in funding from Natural Resources Canada’s Energy Innovation Program (EIP). This funding supports a $1.8 million project to advance Evercloak’s membrane-based system, which can reduce the energy needed for air conditioning and dehumidification by up to 50%.

According to CEO Evelyn Allen, reducing energy use is critical as global temperatures rise. “Air conditioning already accounts for 10 percent of the world’s electricity consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions, and we know demand is going to triple by 2050,” Allen said.

Evercloak’s system uses graphene-composite membranes to dehumidify air, potentially enhancing HVAC energy efficiency without significant infrastructure changes. Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, noted that this development supports Canada’s goal of a net-zero economy by 2050.
