Federal funding supports critical dyke upgrades at Hillman Marshland
Caldwell First Nation is upgrading the southern dyke at Hillman Marshland, supported by a $15 million federal investment. This project aims to protect over 3,440 hectares of vulnerable land, including buildings and infrastructure, from potential flooding exacerbated by climate change.
The funding, part of the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund, will enhance the dyke’s ability to combat erosion and safeguard the community and surrounding areas. Caldwell First Nation, alongside federal and local partners, has viewed this initiative as essential for ensuring the region’s resilience against increasingly severe weather events.
