Federal investment supports renovation of Battat Art Center in Montreal
The Battat Art Center, known as CAB, will undergo a renovation and expansion funded by a $10.2 million federal investment, announced by the Honorable Mélanie Joly. Located on Port-Royal Street in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough, the project aims to reduce the ecological footprint of the existing industrial building while promoting arts and culture.
The initiative will preserve the building’s original wooden, masonry, and steel components while adding a new four-story structure primarily made of Quebec timber, following zero-carbon design standards. It will include artist studios and exhibition rooms to foster public engagement with the arts.
The Government of Quebec will also contribute up to $1 million through the Programme d’innovation en construction bois. This project exemplifies strategic investments in green infrastructure that enhance community access to the arts and support sustainable economic development.
