Gen Z Prefers To Shop On Social Media

Retailers that want to target the Generation Z (Gen Z) demographic this holiday season may need to take a different approach to engage them compared to other demographics, says the ‘What Gen Z Thinks About Holiday Season Shopping 2022’ report from SimplicityDX. It says that 80 per cent of Gen Z (anyone born from 1997 to 2012) plan to use social media to find gifts this year, with 41 per cent planning to use it for most or all of their holiday shopping. In fact, 93 per cent say they use social media as a regular part of their buying process. Fifty-one per cent think social media is a great place to learn about new products, while 22 per cent think it’s a great place to buy new products. Three-quarters prefer to check out on the brand site and not buy on the social platform itself. Most of the social media shopping activity (60 per cent) is covered by two platforms, Instagram and TikTok.
