Government and FCM allocate $5.4 million for Medicine Hat’s energy retrofit initiative
MEDICINE HAT, Alberta – The Canadian government and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) announced a $5.4 million investment for home energy upgrades in Medicine Hat. The funding, part of the Green Municipal Fund’s Community Efficiency Financing (CEF) program, includes a $1.8 million grant and a $3.6 million loan to support the city’s Clean Energy Improvement Program.
Homeowners can secure up to $50,000 in loans for energy-efficient upgrades, such as smart thermostats and high-efficiency furnaces. The program aims to complete 258 retrofits, reducing energy use by over 7,300 gigajoules and cutting 950 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, while creating 80 jobs.
