Government of Canada backs skilled trades with $13.6 million in GTA projects
The Government of Canada has announced an investment of over $13.6 million in five Greater Toronto Area projects to support skilled trades workers. This funding, part of the Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy’s Union Training and Innovation Program (UTIP), aims to enhance recruitment, retention, and training, particularly among women, youth, and equity-deserving groups.
Ministers Kamal Khera and Ya’ara Saks highlighted the importance of this investment in addressing workforce challenges, including the housing crisis and the shift to net-zero construction. In total, 124 projects across Canada, valued at $74.6 million, will benefit from this initiative, underscoring the government’s commitment to building an inclusive, certified, and future-ready skilled trades workforce.
