Government unlocks 14 more federal properties for housing

The Government of Canada has added 14 federal properties to the Canada Public Land Bank to combat the ongoing housing crisis. Announced on Tuesday, this initiative aims to build four million new homes as outlined in Budget 2024.

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, emphasized that “safe, accessible and affordable housing options are out of reach for far too many Canadians.” With these new additions, a total of 70 properties are now available to support housing development.

The Canada Public Land Bank, launched in August 2024, enables long-term leases of public lands to facilitate affordable housing. The government is working closely with provinces, municipalities, and housing advocates to increase housing availability, with ongoing calls for proposals for additional properties across major cities.
