Governments Invest In Quebec Panel Manufacturer
Lac-Mégantic, QC-based Tafisa Canada, a particleboard and thermally fused laminate (TFL) decorative panel manufacturer, has received $62 million in investments from different levels of government and business organizations. The company used the funds for a recently opened 70,000-square-foot plant and expansion of its main plant. The new facility gives the company the capacity to manufacture two high-end finishes with state-of-the-art technology. The expansion of the main plant will allow it to better meet future market needs by installing a sixth TFL production line and growing the finished product warehouse. The production line will be in operation in the fall of 2023 and will increase the proportion of panels that will be laminated with the ability to produce decorative panels with two-sided synchronized embossing (EIR) texture and improve internal flows and service reliability to North American customers. Funds were received from Natural Resources Canada through its Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program; Ministry of Forests, Wildlife, and Parks within the framework of the Programme Innovation Bois (PIB) Wood Innovation Programme; Town of Lac-Mégantic, QC; and Investissement Québec through its Essor Program. Overall, the investments will reduce Tafisa’s environmental footprint, including through the use of recycled wood, thereby saving millions of trees every year. It also furthers competitiveness in a new market while strengthening local supply chains and diversifying Tafisa’s product line.
