Gow’s Home Hardware celebrates 175 Years

Gow’s Home Hardware, an historic establishment in the Bridgewater, NS, community, is celebrating its 175th anniversary. Founded by Robert Dawson in 1848 and sold to Walter Gow in 1929, the retailer joined the Home Hardware banner in 1966. At the age of 16, current dealer-owner Amanda Fancy joined the family business as a part-time cashier and later acquired Gow’s Home Hardware from her uncle and mentor, Peter Gow. “Our 175th anniversary is an opportunity for us to reflect on our history and the values that have guided us for so many years,” she says. “Ultimately, the Gow legacy is about more than just running a business. It's about being a part of Bridgewater – contributing to its growth and prosperity. We hope that celebrating this milestone inspires others to recognize the importance of supporting local businesses and, together, we’ll continue building a strong and vibrant community.”
