Groupe Lebel To Acquire Twin Rivers Lumber Mill

Groupe Lebel will acquire Twin Rivers Paper Company’s softwood lumber mill in Plaster Rock, NB. Groupe Lebel, a long-time supplier to Twin Rivers, will continue to provide by-product chips and biomass utilized by the company’s pulp and cogenerations operations in Edmundston, NB. Twin Rivers is divesting the mill to streamline its core business of specialty and kraft paper production. Groupe Lebel recently acquired Les Bois Lemelin Inc. in St-Jean-Port-Joli, QC, and has initiated a five-year plan to modernize all of its factories. “This is necessary to ensure that our processing plants remain competitive in a context of technological change and labour shortages,” says Louis-Frédéric Lebel, president and chief executive officer of Groupe Lebel. The company is one of the main lumber manufacturers in eastern Canada and is vertically integrated from the cutting of trees to the distribution of finished products.
