HCRA revokes Mariman Homes’ license over violations

Mariman Homes has had its license to build and sell homes in Ontario revoked, the most severe penalty imposed by the Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA). Following complaints from buyers, the HCRA suspended Mariman’s license in December 2023. An inspection found Mariman had sold 108 homes without proper authorization or enrollment in Tarion’s warranty program.

The company also allowed creditors to demand unauthorized price increases and failed to hold buyer deposits in trust. The HCRA offered Mariman a chance to rectify these issues, but the company failed to meet its commitments.

As a result, the HCRA permanently revoked Mariman’s license and imposed $400,000 in administrative penalties.

“Protecting consumers is our top priority,” said HCRA CEO Wendy Moir.

Mariman is currently in receivership, with ongoing monitoring by Tarion regarding potential impacts on deposit protection coverage for affected buyers.
