Home Hardware wins ‘Large Fleet Safety Award’

Home Hardware Stores Limited has been presented the ‘Large Fleet Safety Award’ from the Private Motor Truck Council of Canada (PMTC). The award, presented at PMTC’s annual conference, is open to all Canadian private carriers and judged by an independent panel. Criteria under consideration include the company’s overall safety regime and over the road record. This year, Alvin Carter, a longtime driver for Home Hardware Stores Limited, was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Professional Drivers. Carter joined Home Hardware in 1988 and retired in 2022 after 34 years of service. His career spanned more than four million kilometres and he achieved 40 years of accident and incident-free driving. Home Hardware’s fleet is based in the company’s four distribution centres in St. Jacobs and Elmira, ON; Debert, NS; and Wetaskiwin, AB. The fleet consists of 148 tractors, 605 trailers, and two straight trucks with a Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) violation rate of only 7.03%; to achieve a CVOR ‘excellent safety rating,’ the commercial operator must have an overall violation rate of 15% or less. In 2023, the fleet covered more than 20.8 million kilometres.
