Homeowners prefer simple, neutral designs

Homeowners are gravitating towards simple, clean design aesthetics and versatile living spaces, says a survey from Ferguson, a North American distributor of plumbing and appliance products. Eighty per cent of US homeowners prefer a minimalistic design over a maximalist design and 86% prefer a neutral colour palette. Roughly half (49%) of respondents would buy smart home products to make their lives easier, but most don’t want smart appliances. Sixty-nine percent prefer standard, analog appliances over smart, connected appliances (31%). As for appliance finishes, stainless steel is a top choice at 55% while fewer people prefer white (15%), matte black (19%), and bold-coloured (11%) appliances. In the bathroom, nearly two-thirds (65%) of homeowners prefer a standard design. The majority of homeowners value traditional bathroom layouts over modern wet bathrooms. Soaker tubs are the most popular tub choice with 78% of homeowners choosing this style. Eighty-nine percent of homeowners want a separate laundry room and 11% want the laundry room integrated into their kitchen.
