ICLR and CHBA launch task force to safeguard homes

The Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) and the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) launched the Resilient Homes Task Force (RHTF) project to develop solutions for creating resilient new homes, as well as for renovations and maintenance. This project aims to address the growing impact of extreme weather conditions and catastrophic losses, providing valuable information to the residential construction industry and homeowners about how to protect their properties.

The RHTF will be conducting field trials across Canada, focusing on basement flooding, wildfire, hail, and high wind. These trials will guide the industry and homeowners on voluntary risk reduction measures.

Paul Kovacs, executive director of ICLR, emphasized the importance of protecting homes from extreme weather. Kevin Lee, CEO of CHBA, highlighted the need for research to offer cost-effective home protection. This collaboration aims to enhance disaster resilience and awareness among Canadians.
