IKEA Canada expands partnership to combat furniture poverty
IKEA Canada has pledged $300,000 over three years to Furniture Bank, a Toronto-based social enterprise addressing furniture poverty. The initiative builds on their successful Greater Toronto Area partnership, which has provided furnishings to over 11,600 individuals while diverting 25,000 mattresses and 10,000 essentials from landfills.
The collaboration supports Furniture Bank’s national expansion, enabling nonprofits in cities such as Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, and Winnipeg to implement systems for distributing donated furniture. IKEA Canada’s CEO Selwyn Crittendon emphasized the partnership’s alignment with sustainability and community well-being goals, noting, “Donated mattresses do more than provide comfort; they create a foundation for a better future.”
The investment also extends support for Furniture Bank’s Sleep Well initiative, ensuring children receive essential sleep items.
