IUOE Local 793 breaks ground on new training center
The International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 793 has started construction on a new regional office and training center in Oro-Medonte. The $25 million, 21,000-square-foot facility will feature a state-of-the-art training center for heavy equipment operators, a banquet hall, and office space.
Local dignitaries, including Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Labor Minister David Piccini, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Local 793 business manager Mike Gallagher noted the project’s importance for infrastructure development, stating it will “increase our versatility and ability to train for the future.”
The project received $4.9 million from Ontario’s Skills Development Fund, with the remainder funded by the union. Scheduled to open in 2026, the facility will join other IUOE centers across Ontario, with additional sites planned in Sarnia, Sudbury, and Hamilton.
