L’Arche Vancouver’s $37 million development supports inclusive living
L’Arche Greater Vancouver has officially opened its new $37-million housing project in Burnaby, replacing the aging buildings on Sussex Avenue. The development includes three L’Arche homes, 29 affordable housing units, and space for two community inclusion programs. It also offers semi-independent living for 10 adults with developmental disabilities.
“We challenged ourselves to dream big and go beyond our present needs of inaccessibility and limited space,” said FeiFei Peng, executive director of L’Arche Greater Vancouver.
The project was funded through a mix of government contributions, long-term financing, and L’Arche’s $6-million “We All Belong” campaign.
MP Parm Bains praised the collaboration between government and community, while Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley commended L’Arche for its dedication to inclusivity.
