Lafarge and Geocycle Canada open low-carbon fuel plant

Lafarge Canada and Geocycle Canada inaugurated Canada’s first company-owned low-carbon fuel plant at the Lafarge Brookfield Cement Plant in Nova Scotia. This $10 million investment aims to reduce carbon emissions by over 12,000 tonnes annually, equivalent to removing 13,480 cars from the roads.

The facility will convert local non-recyclable plastics and construction waste into low-carbon fuel, diverting approximately 14,000 tonnes of waste from landfills each year. Supported by a $3.53 million investment from the federal government’s Energy Innovation Program, this project represents a significant step towards a sustainable construction industry in Canada.

“By implementing sustainable and innovative solutions to reduce our environmental impact, we're serving the needs of our customers and the communities in which we operate both now and in the future,” stated David Redfern, CEO of Lafarge Canada. The initiative is also expected to create local jobs.
