March lumber production increases

Lumber production increased 21.8% from February to 4,785.3 thousand cubic metres in March 2023 and was down 5.4% from March 2022, says Statistics Canada. Sawmills shipped 4,286.3 thousand cubic metres of lumber in March, up 18.5% from February and down 3.9% from March 2022. Total hardwood lumber was 88.1 thousand cubic metres in March, up from 85.3 thousand cubic metres in the year-ago period. Total softwood lumber production was 4,697.2 thousand cubic metres, down from 4,971.6 thousand cubic metres last year.
