Miakoda transitional housing project set to support survivors of violence in Prince Albert
Construction has commenced on Miakoda, an eight-unit transitional housing project in Prince Albert, designed to support Métis women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals fleeing interpersonal violence. The Prince Albert Community Housing Society Inc. (PACHSI) will manage the project, which includes two-bedroom apartments, on-site offices, and spaces for community programming.
The federal government contributed $3.4 million through the Indigenous Shelter and Transitional Housing Initiative, while Indigenous Services Canada will provide ongoing subsidies. Additional funding includes $245,588 from PACHSI, $216,000 from the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, and $100,000 from Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak.
This initiative offers culturally connected support and a safe space for vulnerable communities, with two units specifically designed for individuals with mobility challenges.
