Nature and sustainability top outdoor trends for 2024
Trex has released its outdoor trends for 2024, which include connecting with nature, continued interest in sustainable products, and destination spaces.
Homeowners are turning their outdoor spaces into restorative retreats, with features such as reading nooks and Zen spaces for yoga or meditation. Products like fencing, privacy screens, and lattice are also being used to enhance a sense of sanctuary.
Sustainable products remain a major focus for consumers, and this extends to products and materials purchased for use in the backyard. Trex says trending backyard projects this year will include native planting, pollinator gardens, stormwater captures, and zero-scaping. Consumers will opt for more eco-friendly design choices with the goal of leaving a lighter environmental footprint.
Homeowners have become increasingly fluent in creating destination-style outdoor spaces that are calibrated and customized to their own homes, budgets, and lifestyles. Projects include composite decking and resort-inspired décor such as cabana chairs and nautical stripes, daybeds with room enough for two (or more), and stylish pergolas and tropical plants.
