Nearly 90% of B.C. local governments adopt multi-unit housing laws
Nearly 90% of B.C. communities have adopted legislation for small-scale multi-unit housing, according to a recent provincial announcement. This legislation, aimed at addressing outdated zoning rules, will increase housing options for middle-income residents.
Of B.C.’s 188 local governments, 162 have already implemented the changes, with another nine in progress. Fifteen communities requested extensions, while the District of West Vancouver faces non-compliance.
Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon praised local governments for their efforts, emphasizing the need for collaboration to tackle the housing crisis. The initiative supports the province’s Homes for People action plan, following significant investments in housing since 2017.
