New agreement fast-tracks nearly 600 homes in Riverview
The Government of Canada and the Town of Riverview have partnered to expedite housing development using federal funding. This initiative aims to accelerate the construction of 135 homes within the next three years and will promote the development of 456 homes over the next decade. The Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) has allocated $4.9 million to remove obstacles hindering housing projects. Riverview’s Action Plan includes measures to promote multi-family residences and affordable housing by reducing parking requirements and implementing incentive programs.
HAF aims to streamline the construction of at least 100,000 homes in the initial 3 years, and up to 750,000 new homes nationwide over the next decade, focusing on higher density, student housing, transit-oriented development, and affordability. The Government of Canada is committed to enhancing housing affordability and availability through partnerships with various levels of government and Indigenous communities.
