New passing lanes planned for Highway 17 in Alberta-Saskatchewan project
Alberta and Saskatchewan announced a joint project to install passing lanes on Highway 17, north of Lloydminster. Alberta Minister of Transportation Devin Dreeshen and Saskatchewan Highways Minister Lori Carr highlighted the project as part of a broader effort to improve transportation and economic corridors between the provinces.
The 46.75 km segment of Highway 17 will feature three sets of new passing lanes, enhancing safety and efficiency for the approximately 1,700 to 6,000 vehicles using the road daily. The design phase is expected to finish in 2025, with construction starting soon after. This project is part of ongoing cooperation to boost regional economic development.
