OHBA supports streamlined land use policies

The Ontario Home Builders’ Association (OHBA) has welcomed the release of the 2024 Provincial Planning Statement (PPS 2024), set to take effect on October 20, 2024. Announced by Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Paul Calandra at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference, the PPS 2024 aims to streamline land use planning policies to accelerate housing development across the province.

OHBA Board chair Dave Depencier praised the new framework for simplifying the approval process and prioritizing housing creation. The PPS 2024 also focuses on aligning infrastructure with housing needs while protecting natural and agricultural resources. OHBA CEO Scott Andison highlighted the policy’s potential to address housing shortages and support economic growth. The development followed extensive stakeholder consultations.
