Ontario invests over $6 million to train 1,000+ carpenters

VAUGHAN — The Ontario government is investing more than $6 million through the Skills Development Fund to train over 1,000 carpenters across the province. Premier Doug Ford emphasized the importance of this investment, stating it aims to bolster Ontario’s economy by equipping workers with skills for high-demand jobs.

The Carpenters’ Regional Council will receive over $5.5 million to train 750 jobseekers and apprentices, preparing them for their Certificate of Qualification Red Seal exam. Additionally, the College of Carpenters and Allied Trades will get $894,824 to upskill 312 jobseekers in formwork and scaffolding.

With around 1,200 carpentry vacancies in Ontario, these projects address significant labor shortages in this vital sector. This brings Ontario’s total investment in skills development through the fund to nearly $1.1 billion.
