Ottawa launches right-to-repair consultation

The Canadian government is taking steps to improve the repairability of home appliances and consumer electronics. Ministers François-Philippe Champagne and Steven Guilbeault have launched a consultation on the right to repair for Canadians. This initiative aims to provide consumers with more options and information on repair options, allowing them to fix products rather than replace them when components fail. This approach is expected to save money and reduce waste.

The consultation will gather public feedback to develop a federal right-to-repair policy, with a focus on durability, repairability, and interoperability. The government views this move as a way to support a circular economy by extending product lifespans and minimizing environmental impact.
